We give you the tube/pipe mill personnel "The Advantage" for quicker, more accurate alignment and setup of your mills. You will reduce the amount of scrap, attain higher quality tube and experience fewer on-line problems.

"The Advantage" comes customized to your tube or pipe mill's specifications. All tools and fixtures come packed in a stylish and durable equipment case. Inside the kit you will find the latest copies of ROLL-KRAFT'S PROFIT POINTERS, the perfect instructional aid for alignment setup. Combined with ROLL-KRAFT'S SET UP CHART, you will have everything you need to perform a fast, accurate, and professional mill alignment setup.

"The Advantage" Tool Kit tools and examples of their intended use:

Shoulder Alignment Tool – Sized according to mill size. Used for verifying the alignment of the driven shaft's shoulders.

Magnetic Base (with Dial Indicator) – Used to check parallel of driven shafts, check for bent shafts, run out on tooling, etc.

1.000"-2.000" Micrometer – Sized according to mill size. For example, if a mill has a driven shaft O.D. of 2.000”, the kit would be fitted with a 2.000-3.000” micrometer. This also can be used to check the size of the tube during the setup.

6” Dial Calipers – Primarily intended to check tube size in breakdown section. The legs of the calipers allow you to get close to the exit side of the side and driven rolls to measure the formation before springback can occur. However, they can be used for an unlimited number of measurements on the mill.

Pen Light – Use this in conjunction with the straight edge to check for any gaps, when verifying parallel of driven or side rolls.

Cross Test Level – Used to verify the level and plumb of rolls. Can be used as a mini straight edge to check parallel of driven and side rolls close to the rim clearance.

18” Hardened Straight Edge – Used for verifying parallel of driven and side rolls. Often referred to as, “A tool worth its weight in gold.” Many operators would not run a tube mill without it. It offers one of the most accurate mechanical ways to check a setup and alignment.

18” Machinist Rule – Used to check metal line of side roll boxes, as well as other measurements on the mill. On larger mills, this is used to center the strip going into the first pass, as well as ensuring centering of piano wire when verifying mill for alignment.

Telescoping Gauges – These are used to set and record the wide rim clearances found in the side passes in the breakdown section of most mills. It also can be used to check the bore of tooling and bearing sleeves of the outboard stand, etc.

12' Measuring Tape – Used to measure various areas on the mill, but is most commonly used to check the length of tube or pipe coming off the mill.

0-1.000” Sheet Metal Micrometer – Intended to measure for thinning of strip after each breakdown pass to ensure the breakdowns are not adjusted too tightly. Also used to measure incoming strip thickness.

Calculator – Used to calculate the RPM formula for those mills that have two and three motor drives. Also can be used to determine shim thickness under bottom shaft from tooling that has been reworked on those mills equipped with universal stands.

Feeler Gauges – Used to set and record rim clearances in the driven and side roll passes.

RPM Tachometer (Digital Readout) – Used to coordinate the motor drives of mills that are equipped with two and three motor drives. Also can be used to verify and match ratios between transmissions and tooling, primarily in the breakdown section.

0-3.000” Depth Micrometer – Used for checking offset, or parallel, of driven and side rolls. For example, if you had a pair of driven sizing rolls that were not parallel because the shaft shoulder was off, you could use the depth mic to determine the amount of offset and correct the situation.

6" Machinist Rule – Used in many areas on the mill. Primarily intended to measure the centering of strip going into the first breakdown and centering of piano wire.

Shim Assortment – Intended to be used as a temporary “fix” to compensate for misalignment of shaft shoulders on driven passes. These are provided to fit the specific size of your mill.

Machinist Level – Used to verify the level of mill bases, bottom and top driven shafts. Also used to level side roll box units.

.045" Piano Wire – Used to verify the alignment of all driven and side roll passes throughout the mill.

Pie Tape (Diameter Tape) – Primarily used to check outside measurement of the formation in the fin passes, comparing them to the figures outlined on the setup chart. However, can be used anywhere on the mill, for example, to measure final O.D. of tube or pipe size.
