This point on the roll is turning faster than the largest diameter of the roll, which causes roll marks on your tube and pipe products. Marking is not as noticeable on smaller tubing. However, it is very noticeable on pipe.

Here is how floating flange rolls work to eliminate roll marks: As you can see by the photos, the rolls are designed in several pieces. The centerpiece is keyed, so it is turning at the speed of the mill. The two outside rolls spin freely, enabling them to turn at the speed of the material being formed. Since the material and outside rolls are now spinning at the same speed, roll marks are eliminated.
