The final step in Turkshead setup is establishing the centerline and pass line height. Before making those adjustments, confirm that the rolls are horizontal and vertical.
A square can be placed on the mill base and run up the face of the vertical rolls to confirm that they are perpendicular to the base. A cross-test level can also be used on the face of a vertical roll to verify level.
Once roll orientation is confirmed, the Turkshead can be centered. This can be done using a reference scale, a known dimension from the plate to the slide plate, or a straight line or piano wire stretched through the mill centerline.
Pass line height can also be set several ways. A precision ground straightedge long enough to span multiple sizing passes can be used as a reference, or a height gauge can be set to the proper pass line dimension. A straight line or piano wire can also be used to establish height.
