Before positioning the Turkshead rolls, verify that the tooling is installed correctly and that the roll faces are aligned. This step helps confirm that the Turkshead is mechanically ready before gap setting or centerline adjustments begin.
Install the tooling properly in the clevises. Then use a precision ground straightedge across the faces of the rolls to check alignment.
Start with the vertical roll set and confirm that the faces of the rolls line up with each other. Then repeat the same process on the horizontal rolls. If the roll faces are not aligned, the issue should be corrected before continuing with setup.
This check is important because misaligned tooling can affect the Turkshead’s ability to straighten the tube properly. Any alignment problem found at this stage should be addressed before moving on to roll positioning, centerline, or pass line height adjustments.
