Improving Bend Definition and Corner Quality

Producing sharp inside corners can be challenging when profile geometry limits access to the bend area. Poorly defined corners often result in distorted profiles, dimensional variation, and reduced product quality.

Several factors can contribute to this condition, including material properties, insufficient forming passes, lack of roll support, and part geometry. One solution that has proven effective in many applications is the use of bead rolls.

Bead rolls create a localized hinge point by displacing a small amount of material at the bend location. This allows the corner to form more easily while improving dimensional control throughout the profile.

Additional benefits may include reduced material shifting, improved flatness, better squareness, and increased parallelism. While bead rolls are not appropriate for every application, they can be highly effective when sharper corner definition is required.
